Description

December 5th. The night is finally here. Everyone else is asleep, but there’s no chance of you actually sleeping tonight. In a final attempt to guarantee a spot on the nice list, you decide to try to do some extra chores before midnight.

Every early December another kid from your school goes missing, and rumors on the playground have circulated that it’s related to Krampusnacht- the night that a half-goat half-demon named Krampus comes and steals away naughty children and spares the good. But what is it that determines if people are taken by Krampus?

While completing the chores around the house, you find yourself reflecting on situations involving the neighborhood kids that have gone missing & ultimately deciding what you think might have been the right thing to do.

For Goodness Sake is a very short horror text heavy game, focusing on several trolley problem style situations.

Will you be taken by Krampus at the end of the night like the others, or will you be spared?

History

Scott McKie and Mike Monroe have been large fans of the Madvent Calendar the HauntedPS1 puts out every year (since 2020), which consists of 25+ FREE bite-sized little spooky weird games to play every day for the month of December. They decided this year they wanted to contribute to it, especially if December 5th was available (the day of Krampusnacht) for doing something Krampus themed.

Due to the time constraints, it was decided to do something more text based and psychological- specifically focusing on the moral grey-areas of what is considered ‘right’ & ‘wrong’ in complicated situations, when contrasted with the black & white nature of ‘Nice’ vs ‘Naughty’.

Each of the answers to the scenarios is designed to be more or less ‘correct’ according to one system of ethics, so the test comes down to aligning your choices with the ethical system that Krampus enforces.

The game was released on December 1st, 2022 as part of the Madvent Calendar 3 bundle, and was later released seperately on December 5th, 2022 as a standalone via the Steam & Itch.io platforms.
